James Everett Barfield, Jr. is the fifth generation of his family to live in Bibb County . A retired history teacher, he has written numerous articles on local preservation efforts and on architectural history. An ardent preservationist, he twice served as president of the Middle Georgia Historical Society and the Macon Heritage Foundation and as founding president of the Historic Rose Hill Cemetery Foundation.

Bonne Davis Cella is a native of Tifton , GA and a graduate of The University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism. She is the administrator of the State Bar of Georgia's office in Tifton and is the mother of two sons. She is a member of the Tifton Heritage Foundation and a guild member of the Museum for Arts and Heritage. Other than writing and history, she enjoys art and restoring her 1920 home.
Sadie Montgomery Crumbley , native of Wilkinson County , Georgia is descended from two of that county's founding families who received Revolutionary War land grants. A life-long interest in the history of Middle Georgia and her family genealogy inspired her to undertake this book project with Jo McConnell. Employed at the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sadie routinely conducts historical tours of the city of Macon , along with her other duties.

Arrin Freeman , a graduate of Wesleyan College in Studio Art (2001), continues to work as a freelance muralist, painter and illustrator and is employed at the Georgia Children's Museum as the Visual Arts Director. "Painting is my escape. It offers me the possibility to imagine and create anything I want. I love to surround myself with color which makes me happy. My artistic influences are Vincent Van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky and, last but not least, elementary art."

Glenn Grossman became fascinated with photography at an early age while using black and white film and a Kodak Brownie camera. During high school and college years, Glenn saved all his extra dimes and dollars for camera, film, and darkroom equipment. Now an empty nester, Glenn has time once again to devote to his early love of photography. He is fortunate to be in a print advertising career, where his photographic skills play a large part in meeting the needs of his clients. A major volunteer photographer for Macon 's annual Cherry Blossom Festival, Glenn's photography has been published in numerous local publications, including Macon Magazine .

Joy Hulgan comes from a family of artists, including her mother and two sisters. As a group, the sisters have enjoyed over twenty years in the fine art business, reproducing Joy's art and the art of their mother, Mary Hulgan. Joy began drawing architectural sites and landscapes in 1978 and has published numerous reproductions of her work. She also works in oils, painting landscapes and portraits. In her spare time, she teaches art to seniors and finds that a particularly joyful experience.

Richard Jay Hutto was the first executive director of the Jekyll Island Foundation. An attorney and writer, he served as White House Appointments Secretary to the Carter family and was Chairman of the Georgia Council for the Arts. Hutto compiled and edited Accepted Fables, the memoirs of Jordan Massee. He and his wife and children live in Macon , Georgia , where is an elected member of City Council.

Ken Krakow has enjoyed a successful career as a professional photographer since 1980. His clients include real estate firms, kaolin companies, golf courses, universities, and many of the large industrial firms across the South. He operates a strictly digital studio, with more than nine years' daily experience with PhotoShop; he uses a Canon 1Ds, the best location camera currently available. His work has appeared in a number of area publications, including fourteen years as the staff photographer for Macon Magazine.

Frank McKenney was born and raised in Macon , Georgia , and attended local schools. He graduated from Mercer University in 1957, and received an L1.B from Mercer's Walter F. George School of Law in 1959. He was on the Editorial Board of Mercer Law Review and Editor in Chief, Fall 1958. McKenney was Referee and Associate Judge of Bibb Juvenile Court for twenty-eight years. Historian for the Macon Bar Association, he is author of The Standing Army; Georgia's Confederate Monuments; History of Camp Wheeler; The Judges and Lawyers of Macon, and various articles.

Josephine "Jo" Sugg McConnell , originally from Rocky Mount , North Carolina , has lived in Macon since 1991. As a tour guide for the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau, she encountered guests who were looking for books about Macon 's historical homes. Finding none, she was inspired to undertake the challenge of creating one, with her colleague, Sadie Crumbley, at the MBCCVB and with well-known Macon photographer, Ken Krakow.

Joe McDaniel is a product of South Macon and a 1964 graduate of Willingham High School . He graduated from Georgia Southern University (BS in Education; 1968) and Georgia College and State University (MS in Education; 1971). McDaniel was a high school coach for 10 years before going on staff at Mercer University in Macon , GA , where he became Director of Admissions. From there, he served as Senior Associate Pastor at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church where he retired in 2002. He has served as Public Information Director for Mid Georgia Ambulance in Macon since November, 2002.

Billy Powell , a newspaper columnist for thirty-five years, spent many years considering writing a book on Perry's basketball dynasty before he began the arduous task of research, interviews, and writing. Hall of Fame Coach Eric Staples had been dead for twenty-one years and Powell knew that someone from his generation must capture the glory days of Perry basketball, 1930s ? 1960s, or it would be lost forever. One of Staples' star players in the 1950s, Powell relied on interviews with former Perry High players, high school yearbooks, personal scrapbooks, and old newspaper archives as a source material for the book.

Martha Thompson is a native of Macon who travels extensively around the United States and the world. She prefers to paint in Italy , France , Spain , and any beautiful beach area where she finds herself. She spends many hours with her grandchildren, teaching them the joy of painting. She hopes to impart to others the pure joy and fun of doing the art?of putting paint on paper or canvas and watching where it leads. Martha's art can be seen in a variety of galleries in Macon and throughout the South.
